With a quick turnaround from our victory over West Ham United at the weekend, Tottenham Hotspur were back in Champions League action this evening as we welcomed Olympiakos to White Hart Lane Stadium.
Following the departure of Mauricio Pochettino and the arrival of Jose Mourinho, West Ham was his debut victory but he would, no doubt, dearly love to get himself up and running on home soil.
Surprisingly for Spurs, and what fans are used to, there was only one change with Danny Rose coming in for Ben Davies, although that was roughly expected.
What wasn’t expected was the shoddy start to the game, more akin to the way we finished the last one and within the opening 20 minutes we were 2-0 down almost from nowhere in some respects. Having had more of the ball, but created slightly less than the visitors had, Dele Alli did halve the deficit in stoppage time but there were bound to be some harsh words at the half time break.
Jose’s half time magic appeared to work as within five minutes of the restart Harry Kane had up back on level terms. With 17 minutes remaining in the tie, Serge Aurier unexpectedly gave us the lead but we were more on top this half. A few minutes later it was game over as Kane completed his brace in the 77th minute to make it 4-2 on the day and the comeback was complete.
