Spurs Set To Make Summer Move For Free Championship Stopper

|

It looks as though the club are planning for life without Michel Vorm. The Dutchman’s contract expires in the summer and the Sun report that we are lining up a replacement.

Sam Johnstone, who is currently Aston Villa’s number one in the Championship, will likely leave Manchester United on a free transfer once his loan spell at Villa Park ends in June.

The 25-year-old has been at United since he came through the youth ranks but has never made the breakthrough into the first team squad. After seven loan spells, it seems as though he has finally had enough at Old Trafford.

The keeper has impressed with 20 clean sheets in 44 appearances this campaign, but there are certainly big question marks over whether he would be an adequate backup to Hugo Lloris.

Vorm was a first choice stopper for Swansea when we signed him, but Johnstone doesn’t have anywhere near that level of experience despite being in his mid-twenties.

All of his 148 senior appearances have come in the Championship or in a lower division, and it remains to be seen if he can cut it in the Premier League.
