Spurs reportedly monitoring situation of Everton winger

Football.London, have reported that Tottenham still remain keen on Everton’s Anthony Gordon and will continue to keep-eye on the player ahead of the forthcoming January transfer window.

Spurs were one of a few clubs that were interested in the winger last summer, with London rivals Chelsea also holding an interest – having two offers knocked back for the player.

Gordon has become an integral part of Frank Lampard’s side ever since the ex-Chelsea man arrived at Goodison, with the youngster to contributing to 27% of Everton’s league goals this season.

So, should Spurs make a move for Gordon come January?

Although Gordon almost exclusively features as a winger, his stats (provided by FB Ref) would suggest he was more of a wing-back. This is because 21-year-old ranks quite poorly in terms of attacking stats with Gordon ranking in the bottom 5% of players in his position for assists per 90, as well as the bottom 9% for shot-creating actions per 90.

Gordon’s defensive stats however show his potential as wing-back with him ranking in the in top 1% for blocks and top 5% for tackles, for players in his position (across Europe’s top five leagues).

This could explain the interest from Spurs, as Conte’s side are in dire need of some quality at wing-back with both Emerson Royal and Matt Doherty flattering to deceive.

Although Gordon is clearly a talented player, he is nowhere near worth the £60 million valuation that Chelsea owner Todd Boehly was reportedly willing to pay, last summer. Spurs would be much better going after more proven wingbacks, in the name of Pedro Porro and Denzil Dumfries.
