Spurs Reportedly Battling Two Clubs In Race For Portuguese Playmaker

|

We are one of three teams interested in signing Barcelona midfielder Andre Gomes, according to Calciomercato.com.

Last summer, the club reportedly made a loan offer for the Portuguese international, but the player remained at the Camp Nou. Lazio and Wolverhampton Wanderers are now also in the hunt for the 24-year-old.

Gomes was not a regular for Barca last season, and there has been constant speculation that he will depart the La Liga club.

On his Instagram page, he posted a picture of himself on holiday in Rome, prompting further talk of a move to Serie A.

The midfielder made 31 appearances last season but started just 12 matches under manager Ernesto Valverde. His lack of game time meant he missed out on a place in Portugal’s World Cup squad.

His international snub, combined with Barcelona’s purchase of Arthur from Gremio, are just two further reasons why the player may consider leaving Spain this summer in search of first-team football.

Although he certainly hasn’t been at his best since his move to Barca, Mauricio Pochettino reportedly remains a fan, and he could be an option to help take some of the burden off Christian Eriksen in the middle of the park.
