Tottenham Hotspur kicked off their pre-season campaign in the International Champions Cup with a positive victory over Juventus out in Singapore on Sunday.

As attentions turn to Manchester United, before we pivot to the Audi Cup and the tie with Real Madrid as we travel to Germany, the Juventus clash should certainly whet the appetite ahead of the 2019/20 Premier League campaign and the game held plenty of positives.

Erik Lamela (30), Lucas Moura (65) and Harry Kane (90+3) all got on the scoresheet to give us the 3-2 win but Kane’s effort as he lobbed Wojciech Szczesny deep in stoppage time will certainly take the headlines from the game.

Plenty of youngsters also got decent run-outs as fans continue to expect big things from Troy Parrott and Jack Roles (but they weren’t the only potential stars of the future on show) and it wasa debut for record signing Tanguy Ndombele.

Paulo Gazzaniga got an early chance to impress again as well with Hugo Lloris falling foul of a bout of tonsillitis, so all in a good weekend.

Juventus (4-3-3): Buffon (Szczesny 46), Cancelo, Rugani (Demiral 46), Bonucci (c) (De Ligt 63), De Sciglio, Can (Rabiot 46), Pjanic (Muratore 76), Matuidi (Kastanos 76), Bernardeschi, Mandzukic (Higuain 46), Ronaldo (Pereira 63). Substitutes (not used): Pinsoglio, Loria, Di Pardo, Coccolo, Beruatto, Toure, Frederiksen, Mavididi.

Spurs (4-3-1-2): Gazzaniga, Walker-Peters (Marsh 71), Alderweireld (c) (Foyth 46), Tanganga (Vertonghen 46), Georgiou (White 71), Skipp (Bowden 90+2), Winks (Roles 63), Dele (Sissoko 46), Lamela (Ndombele 63), Son (Lucas 46), Parrott (Kane 46). Substitutes (not used): De Bie, Whiteman, Lyons-Foster, Eriksen.

Onto the next one…

  • I don’t think we are that far behind Liverpool. In fact, if our full backs were as good as theirs I would expect us to finish above them. We are really not that far away from a title challenge now.

  • I am also pleased to see Frank posting something different….making sense and being positive…….. Humble pie must have worked with him…. 🙂

  • Anyway we have now got to get the players motivated for this season. Agree with Frank ericsen has been very negative for months, his goal in Audi cup was ok, penalty poor, and again v inter. Poch has to sort this out as we are playing with 10 men most of a game with ericsen on field.

  • The world as we know it has ended. I just read Frank’s comments. I fear that the sun will not rise tomorrow. All predictability has exited.

  • Watched a bit of Lo Celso on You Tube – looks pure class – excellent dribbling and composure (Eriksen can’t do this), great vision and excellent shooting – think we’ve got a diamond – same with N’Dombele. Remember Lo Celso kept Dybala on the bench for Argentina at the Copa America – I thought they should find a way of incorporating both but it was what it was. Can’t wait to watch him in tandem with our other AM’s and HK10. Same goes for Sess – another diamond in the rough I feel. As far as Eriksen is concerned expect him to go before the end of August and hoping for atleast £80m or 90m Euros roughly but would not be surprised if it was more like £70m or 75-80m Euros. We’ve spent £55m+£25m+£8.5m+14m (loan fee) and that totals £102.5m and we’ve brought in £20m+£6.5m so we’re down £76m. Hopefully Eriksen balances this out. This season we’ll find out if the AM’s can cover HK10 fully thus negating the need for a back-up. RB is up for questioning. I think LB is more than sorted with Rose/Davies and if necessary Sess. I rate Rose and Davies quite highly so the only real concern is RB and if things don’t run smoothly there maybe we can do something in January. We need Aurier to step up and justify the £23m – hopefully he can do a Sissoko and re-invigorate his career this season. KWP to hopefully come along aswell and establish himself fully.

  • Iwobi going for around £35-40m just shows what a good deal we got with Sess – Iwobi is decent enough but Sess has the potential to be a top, top class player so hopefully Poch can work his magic and turn him into a superstar like we did with Bale already back in the day.

  • So Eriksen is the problem child all of a sudden ??? I personally feel he has always giving his best for the club .He wants to play in Spain and that depends on who wants him probably the two Madrid teams will be after him,El jefe I don’t see us getting the colour of £70 million for him more £40-50 million bracket if we are lucky.personally I hope he stays even if it means he leaves on a free at the end of season ,Lo celsio and Eriksen in the team is a different ball game two playmaker type players would make a huge difference .so if Eriksen leaves it puts a lot of pressure on Lo celsio to become the fulcrum of the team and don’t forget we already know we have no other player in our squad that plays that role.Dele Alli is the player that needs to buck up his ideas this season or maybe some time on the bench might wake him up but El jefe he ain’t a playmaker that’s for sure ,he takes three touches most of the time to control the ball and look up hence he slows the play down way to much.

  • Pauric I take your point on Dele – but that said centrally off HK10 is his best position. Lo Celso will need to drop right with Sonny on the left but that shouldn’t be a problem as he played there in the Copa America originally especially when Dele is in the team. They will of course as HT regularly comments exchange position’s and make for a fluid attack so looking forward to watching, also Lo Celso can come inside with Moura and Sonny or Lamela playing as wing forwards so like I say looking forward to seeing them cause max damage to the opposition.

  • On Eriksen I wouldn’t sell him for less than £70m nor expect him to go for any less – it’s roughly what we need to balance the books for this summer’s outlay and I reckon it’s what Levy will expect to let him go. I can see him going to Madrid only, Atletico is not a step up from us as Barca and Madrid are the equivalent of Man City/Liverpool over here at the moment. Hopefully he signs a new contract but doubt it – would be an amazing boost if he did – right out of left field but can’t see it happening for various reason’s that namely he wants a new challenge at Madrid and we need to balance the books.

  • Have we not been balancing the books for the previous 3 transfer windows????so say we sell Eriksen for 70 million el jefe, trippier £20 £8janesen,dembele £10 .so we signed Ndombele £63,Sess£25,Clarke£8 and Lo celsio on loan that more than balances the books.Have we strengthened ourselves I’m not convinced a lot of pressure on Ndombele and Lo celsio to become major players straight away under poch it usually takes time to get use to his system and tactics.Time will tell

  • El jefe,Lo celsio best position is central attacking midfielder, and reading up on his performances for Argentina in the copa he wasn’t comfortable in that position and if memory serves me right they switched him for second and third game .lets hope he can adapt quickly.

  • I think that Pochettino will probably see Lo Celso as a very flexible player that can play as a box to box type in a middle 2 or 3 and also right across the front line as an attacker and even centre forward if required. It’s what Poch likes in a player, I’m sure. It’s also what most young, talented players have to do in the modern game when playing at the top end of the game for teams like Spurs.

We won’t of course know for sure what MP does have in mind for Lo Celso until we see him in action. But he does already have experience of playing in various positions for both club and country. And even then, what may have not worked best for him in one team (Betis or Argentina) may well work differently for Spurs.

If he is as good as people say he is (and he looks it to me), then he should be most of what Poch hopes him to be. It may take a bit of time or he may well fit right in, sooner than later. Either way Pochettino and his staff will want to work their tactics and ideas into him for the best benefit to the team and hopefully help him to improve quickly both as an individual and team player. I think this is what our manager and coaches do best. And so I look forward to watching it happen… Along with Tanguy and whichever of our Academy players we see, coming through…

  • Forgot about the £12m for Dembele, think Janssen was more like £6m but read it could be as high as £10m, £20m for Trips, so far around £38m guaranteed. Factoring in the full cost of Tan is £63m, Sess £25m, Jack £8.5m and Gio £14m loan so £110.5m. Like I said £70m for Eriksen will balance the books more or less perfectly for this summer. The CL final run was a God send after moving into the new stadium. We have the new deals with Nike and AIA although a bit peeved that were receiving far less than others who are on shorter deals – wonder if they go up season upon season – Nike starting at £30m and AIA at £40m?! I know with the stadium costs guaranteed income for the foreseeable future was probably crucial but hate to be tied down for years on mediocre deals as think we are going places and then we’ll have to scalp the stands with further exorbitant prices to stay competitive.

  • Pauric continuing on think we’ll have to balance the books for the near future especially after only so recently having moved into the new stadium. From what I can see though we are very competitive and only main concern is RB at the moment – we could do with a class addition here – hope Aurier/KWP/Foyth prove me wrong but not done so up until now. So we may well need to sell Eriksen and he wants to go anyway – hopefully we get top dollar for him.

  • I see Clarke played no part for Leeds today, will be interesting to see how much game time he gets with a championship club never mind talking about our squad.i think we took a punt on him ,I don’t believe he played two full games for Leeds senior team.
