Tottenham Hotspur kicked off their pre-season campaign in the International Champions Cup with a positive victory over Juventus out in Singapore on Sunday.

As attentions turn to Manchester United, before we pivot to the Audi Cup and the tie with Real Madrid as we travel to Germany, the Juventus clash should certainly whet the appetite ahead of the 2019/20 Premier League campaign and the game held plenty of positives.

Erik Lamela (30), Lucas Moura (65) and Harry Kane (90+3) all got on the scoresheet to give us the 3-2 win but Kane’s effort as he lobbed Wojciech Szczesny deep in stoppage time will certainly take the headlines from the game.

Plenty of youngsters also got decent run-outs as fans continue to expect big things from Troy Parrott and Jack Roles (but they weren’t the only potential stars of the future on show) and it wasa debut for record signing Tanguy Ndombele.

Paulo Gazzaniga got an early chance to impress again as well with Hugo Lloris falling foul of a bout of tonsillitis, so all in a good weekend.

Juventus (4-3-3): Buffon (Szczesny 46), Cancelo, Rugani (Demiral 46), Bonucci (c) (De Ligt 63), De Sciglio, Can (Rabiot 46), Pjanic (Muratore 76), Matuidi (Kastanos 76), Bernardeschi, Mandzukic (Higuain 46), Ronaldo (Pereira 63). Substitutes (not used): Pinsoglio, Loria, Di Pardo, Coccolo, Beruatto, Toure, Frederiksen, Mavididi.

Spurs (4-3-1-2): Gazzaniga, Walker-Peters (Marsh 71), Alderweireld (c) (Foyth 46), Tanganga (Vertonghen 46), Georgiou (White 71), Skipp (Bowden 90+2), Winks (Roles 63), Dele (Sissoko 46), Lamela (Ndombele 63), Son (Lucas 46), Parrott (Kane 46). Substitutes (not used): De Bie, Whiteman, Lyons-Foster, Eriksen.

Onto the next one…

  • Going back to Sessegnon……… could be we are being a little harsh, he undoubtedly has natural talent so maybe the generally poor Fulham team performances in the PL contributed to his own uninspiring ones?

  • TQ2/HT …. In regard to KWP’s physique, he can build up his body strength over a period of time and as for his height, well, Rose isn’t that tall. Players develop their strengths to offset any perceived weaknesses. And as you both said, Poch seems to know what he’s doing and what he wants so we’ll just have to trust in that.

Yes, we were the Champions Club Cup winners last year, TQ. I’m getting sick of all these trophies!

I get the United game live on foxtel’s ‘Bein Sport’ channel.

  • Mentioning KWP… Yes he is a bit smaller than most defenders . We said the same thing about Lucal Modric… in MF..too small bullied off the ball… Look how he built his physical stature and improved !! I think poch will have KWP working on his weakness… diet of 5,000 calories a day…and hours in the gym……. lol

  • That’s where I’ve been going wrong block 108…………..I’ve been on a diet of 5000 calories a day but no exercises! lol

  • When I watch Sessignon, I thought more of a wing than a true FB. We’ll see, if we sign the lad, that is. Maybe poch has him in mind as a CF backup for Kane?

  • TK… I agree that Sessignon is better suited as left sided attacking player. Just as Bale was moved there from LB by Harry and the result is historic. However poch has his own ideas and knows better than the supporters of what football tactical ploys to use. In poch we should all be trusting.. COYS

  • TQ2… We can all understand about eating and not enough exercise. Knowing your postcode area, there are a some walks on stepper elevation roads you can do, and then along the seafront from Brixham to Torquay or Paignton is a fair distance, albeit fairly level elevation. You could stop at The Grand Hotel for a cup of tea. 🙂

  • That’s far too energetic for me block!

The Grand does a superb Sunday lunch as well, where do you think all those calories come from? lol

  • I read this morning that Marco Asensio picked up what could be a serious knee injury against the gooners last night. There is speculation that it could affect the decision to sell Ceballos if he is out for any length of time. Wouldn’t that be just so ironic. lol

  • It seems to me that Poch’s relatively poor command of English keeps leading a lot of journo’s to make the wrong assumptions and write misleading articles. In his latest news conference he made reference to the transfer dealings at the club in which his words suggested that he has no control over the purchase of players but gets the blame if they don’t work out.

I really cannot believe he and his coaches have no say in who we try to buy, it’s surely just the negotiations with the selling club that he leaves to Daniel Levy, having provided him with a list of identified targets.

Having listenened closely to his words I can’t decide whether he is winding up the press deliberately with his choice of words and phrases or if it is a genuine inability to get across what he wants to say because of his poor command of English.

  • Seems the match today is only available in the UK via subscription to MUTV, the only other option is via ESPN+ subscription. That’s a very poor show by the broadcast companies who seem to have all of the other ICC games.

  • I’m hoping to have another look at some of our youngsters against United. The new AIA sponsorship deal looks good. At the rate Levy is doing his ‘thing’ we may not need any stadium naming deal.

  • If anyone is interested in triggering Alderwiereld’s £25m buy out clause, you better get a move on. It expires at midnight today!

So, if anyone has a half decent pub team they manage or play for and who’s defence needs a bolster, get it done now. To dare is to do!

TQ2 – I watched the Juve game on an ‘iffy’ American stream. I won’t share it on here but there were a few streams available for that game and there’ll probably be more for the United match. The risk is yours to take but I haven’t had any problems so far. But you have to be wary of unwanted downloads and links etc…

Play the kids Poch! (Gazza to score a last minute winner from a long punt taken just inside the Tottenham goal area). It’s true!

    Up the Spurs!

  • Good morning HT, yes I had a decent stream for the Juve game but for some reason broadcasters don’t seem to have any rights for this game and is only available for streaming on the two subscription channels I mentioned previously. I am hoping to find that a stream becomes available as the kick-off time approaches, if not I guess the THFC website match centre will have text commentary.

  • The link to Dybala this morning has come out of left field somewhat, can’t imagine we would sign both him and Lo Celso, especially if Eriksen isn’t going. I wouldn’t complain at either but feel we might have missed a trick with Bruno Fernandes who had a fantastic scoring and assist record at Sporting last season and scored one and assisted one against Liverpool last night. Seems he has rejected the advances from Manu.

  • TQ2 …. It certainly did come out of left field. I’m eagerly looking forward to seeing what the squad looks like when the window closes. We could end up with a phenomenal looking bench if some more of our ‘supposed’ targets arrive. There might well be some ‘glory’ this season. Pre-season is the time to dream! lol

  • As you will have guessed from many previous postings Geof we are both of a similar vintage, I have to say I don’t think I have had such a sense of anticipation for some years in respect of potential incoming players. I hope I don’t end up feeling badly let down but have to say I’m very happy with the business we have done so far.

  • Interesting that Georgiou is starting consecutive games at left back/wing back, I thought he had a pretty good game there against Juve.
