Spurs – not a million miles away?

Martin Jol declared after the 2-2 draw with Ars*nal that ‘JJ saved the day’.

Shame we had to be looking to save the day at all, the first half we got spot on and were leading, but things with Spurs (especially against the teams above) are never that simple!

Jol said:

‘If you looked at the first half, I would have been disappointed if someone had told me at half-time that we were going to draw. But after the second half, they could have scored a third goal and possibly a fourth. You have to play 90 minutes or more and it wasn’t even a lucky goal, he does it all the time in training, setting up one-twos and then striking the ball.’

Adding, ‘In the first half we did everything right. We pressed them at the right stages and kept the ball with Berbatov, who I thought was excellent. But when you play Arsenal, if you invite them into your half, you ask for problems and that’s exactly what happened. We couldn’t get out of our half and not only for a couple of minutes, but for the whole of the second half.’

‘In the first half I was very optimistic but in the second half they could have scored three or four. As I said, Jermaine Jenas saved the day for us.’

I think yesterday just proved there is some way to go but we aren’t exactly a million miles away, especially on the first half display. Well, ok the second half we might have looked a million miles away but we still pulled off a draw.

All eyes on summer spending I guess.
