Spurs New Stadium – Plenty Of Positives But One Tasteless Negative

|

It’s amazing how quickly the novelty of the new stadium has become the norm, maybe the fact the new ground is in the same place as the old has something to do with it. The stadium is a fantastic place to watch football.

My original fear was the transport links might struggle with the increased numbers but it turns out the Victoria line through Tottenham Hale has absolutely no problem, so that means my journey at least is fine.

Of course, the less visible part of the build is the second pitch. When the ground was built the only definite use for the pitch was the two NFL games each year. The first of these attracted rave reviews from the players. It wouldn’t be a surprise if the two NFL games currently staged at Wembley end up at our ground too. By the time the first game took place, Saracens had already signed a five year deal to hold a game each season at the stadium.

More recently a rugby league test match against Australia was agreed for next year (since I think Rugby League is underrated I might go to that). Then yesterday I read Guns N’ Roses were staging the first concert there.

There is even talk Anthony Joshua might stage his first title defence at the ground, wait and see if there’s any truth in that.

What is clear is Daniel Levy’s dream of a stadium used for more than football is coming together, maybe quicker than I would have expected. More use of the stadium means more income for the club which obviously helps.

So any negatives with the stadium?

Just one – the beer. As a paid up CAMRA member when they said they would have their own microbrewery I had visions of quality beer after the game. In reality, the beer is so bad I’ve been reduced to drinking lager after matches, now if they could just sort that out…
