Spurs Midfielders Words Would Seem To Contradict Departure Talk As He Looks To Get Back To His Best Next Season

With departure talk featuring highly this summer when it comes to Tottenham Hotspur’s rumour mill, one player that appeared he could be on his way out was midfielder Victor Wanyama.

Back in April reports surfaced in the media suggesting that manager Mauricio Pochettino would be open to moving on 12 senior players this summer as he looked to rebuild the first team squad to match the quality of our new White Hart Lane Stadium and 27-year-old Wanyama was one of those listed.

12 Players Set For An Exodus As Pochettino Looks To Rebuild Spurs Over The Summer

With injuries hitting the Kenyan international it’s been a while since Spurs fans have had the chance to see him at his best and that seemed the driver more than anything for the speculation linking him with a move away as game time was again limited for him in the 2018/19 campaign, although he did feature pretty regularly as the season came to a close.

The player himself is now away on Africa Cup of Nations action as skipper and speaking in a recent interview he didn’t sound like a player who was expecting a departure and he said he wanted to use the competition as a springboard for pre-season so he could get back to his best for us.

“For me it was a difficult season and I was tired for a long time because of injury. I was hoping to help the team more but it did not work out well. The African Championship is a good opportunity to regain my level and prepare my fitness fully before the holiday and then prepare for the new season, which will be a new personal challenge.”

He also had words of praise for Poch in terms of how hard he works to get the best out of players and with top 4 secured and our run to the Champions League Final, it sounds like Wanyama is looking for more of that in 2019/20 as opposed to a new club.
