Former Southampton goalkeeper Paulo Gazzaniga has had to remain patient following his move to Tottenham Hotspur.

Manager Mauricio Pochettino took him to St Mary’s originally and when he made the switch to White Hart Lane, the now 26-year-old followed him in August 2017 but to date he only has six appearances to his name.

With injuries hitting both Hugo Lloris and Michel Vorm, Gazzaniga quickly took his opportunity to make a strong claim as our backup stopper and there are those in the fanbase who feel despite his game experience, he should be our No 1.

Those calls will only increase I suspect as he followed in Juan Foyth’s footsteps for Argentina, and kept a clean sheet on his maiden senior bow in their friendly clash against Mexico earlier this week.

Keeping the clean sheet he’ll have certainly ticked boxes as he impressed and it would’ve been a big moment for him and he, of course, wasn’t the only Spurs man to impress against Mexico given Erik Lamela’s performance.

Onwards and upwards as he chases down two number one spots.
