Spurs Man Restates His Happiness At The Club But It’s Not What Fans Want To Hear

|

The future of Tottenham Hotspur centre-half Toby Alderweireld continues to be up in the air, despite the club enacting the option to keep him with us for another 12 months.

As part of that extension, as fans will be keenly aware, it now kicks in a reported £25million release fee that will be live for a portion of the summer and with ongoing speculation about his future and Manchester United in particular, it’s understandable that fans are concerned.

In a recent interview with Sky Sports our 30-year-old was saying all the right things, but he wouldn’t be drawn on his future, stating simply.

“There’s a lot to play for this season. And in the end I have a year contract left at Spurs, so I don’t look further than this season. Other things I don’t know. I am very happy at Spurs, so we will see what the future brings.”

It can obviously be read both ways and plenty of fans love to read into things, often coming up with conclusions that don’t bear fruit with the benefit of hindsight, but such in modern life.

If no new deal is agreed before the end of the current 2018/19 campaign, at least we only have a few months to wait before we know whether the optimists or pessimists were right.
