Spurs Make Hard Work Of Boro Clash, Even Though We Were Relatively Safe – Match Stats

|

It’s been a disappointing year for Tottenham Hotspur and that applies to results, performances, managerial changes and our usual luck with serious injury but tonight was an opportunity to put a smile on the faces of the home fans as we welcomed Middlesbrough to White Hart Lane for our FA Cup third round replay.

Manager Jose Mourinho would certainly have been looking for a better performance than the one we put in at the Riverside Stadium.

He arguably got it as well as it only took Giovani Lo Celso two minutes to open the scoring, and 15 minutes in Erik Lamela had doubled our advantage and we saw the first half out with complete control really although Gazzaniga had to be on his toes with one effort they mustered.

Second half was much the same really, but it’s never that simple at Spurs and inside of the last ten then tried to make a game of it and scored themselves.

We didn’t keep the clean sheet obviously, but that late effort definitely should’ve gone in to make the game safe, but hey ho, Southampton next and at least there are far more positives tonight than negatives.
