Spurs Left Back Returns To Gillingham

|

22-year-old Tottenham Hotspur left-back Connor Ogilvie has today made the switch back to the Priestfield Stadium and will have another spell with Gillingham.

The Academy graduate is yet to make a senior bow for Spurs, but he has developed his game with two loan spells out with Stevenage at the Lamex Stadium in League Two, and last season he stepped up to League One level with Gillingham and added a further 42 professional appearances to his name as he made the left back slot his own across the campaign of 2017/18.

He even chipped in with a second senior goal for the side.

With Spurs being pleased with his development at the club, it’s no surprise to see him given another loan spell and given the opportunity to continue from where he left off given he knows the ground, his colleagues and the staff so fingers crossed it helps bring him on another level and come January we maybe look at seeing if he can make the step up to the Championship.

The loan will expire on December 31 so it’s an educated guess to think that’s his pathway this season.

Whether he has a future at Spurs directly remains a question but his future development will determine that ultimately, but a youth Academy is also a means of making money to reinvest so if he does well it still becomes a win, win situation for Tottenham.

It’s fair to say given his age and the fact he hasn’t broken through yet, the second option seems the more likely and that’s not lost on fans, but he still has his supporters who would be delighted to see another homegrown talent come through.
