The club could rival Southampton in pursuing Stoke winger Xherdan Shaqiri, according to the Mirror journalist Alex Crook.

The report doesn’t go into much detail about our interest, only to say that we are “keeping tabs” on the Swiss international. Saints boss Mark Hughes is, however, looking to step up his interest in the 26-year-old after previously working with the player when he was Potters boss.

Shaqiri is said to have a release clause of just £12m after Stoke’s relegation from the Premier League. The player has recently stated that he will be leaving his current team and has made it known that he would prefer to stay in England.

We have also been linked with Inter Milan’s Ivan Perisic by Italian newspaper the Corriere Dello Sport in recent days, and it seems we are on the lookout for another wide player.

Playing for Stoke last season, Shaqiri’s numbers were pretty decent with eight goals and seven assists in 36 league matches. At 26 and available at a relatively low price, it may tempt Mauricio Pochettino into making a move.

  • We are very good at ” keeping tabs “on players, it is a stock phrase. I am not saying in this case he is necessarily a player we should sign, but this keeping tabs nonsense gets a bit tiresome. We should know before the TW opens who our targets are, and go in to attempt to sign them. We just don’t seem to know who or what we want, or if we do, we are not brave enough to go in with a realistic offer in a genuine attempt to sign them.

  • he would be a great siging,he offers us something more on the right hand side but he can also play left side.Sign him please..Anothr player should sign is Rueben Neves,he has great vision could fill Dembele spot.

  • Has to be said is a bargain at £12m and offers good rotation potential – 2 footed like Son which is another plus – wouldn’t mind signing him up – atleast he’s proven in the Prem and at international level also.

  • If we sell the likes of N’Kou, Sissoko, Jansen and Llorente then I’m up for this deal. He is still only 26 so plenty of years left in him.

  • It’s a yes from me. Will strengthen the squad and could be the shrewdest buy of the season at £12m.

  • Real Deal if we wait to get rid of our dead wood, somebody else will be in do the deal, game over. That is precisely why we miss out on good players, and end up with end of window leftovers like Sissoko. Are we hàrd up for £12M. Other clubs must have sussed that of they hold back on buying Spurs players, they nullify our transfer business due to Levy’s “sell before you buy” ethos, come on man take a punt for once in your life.

  • The only explanation regarding this one if it were true is that he’s more right wing where we already have Moura, Ericksen and Lamela. Also he might only be a back-up to other targets who are much harder to get and the club is waiting to see what materialises with these other targets.

  • Other targets namely being LWF’s to challenge Son as he has no one to compete/rotate with, etc.
