Netflix released the second instalment of their Sunderland Til I Die docuseries on the 1st of April, and included in the six-episode series is an insight into the behind-the-scenes affairs at the club.
Episode two focuses heavily on the future of Josh Maja, who scored 15 league goals for Sunderland in the first half of 2018/19, leading to interest from a host of clubs – including Spurs.
We reportedly kept a close eye on him, scouting the striker on nine occasions while the Black Cats’ Head of Football operations Richard Hill said we could offer him a huge amount more than Sunderland.
Should we focus our transfer attention on young players?
Yes
No
And yet, we still didn’t manage to land his signature, with the 21-year-old instead opting for Bordeaux, where he has so far scored nine goals in 31 games.
Let’s hope he isn’t yet another player we rue missing out on, as he has proved he is a talented young player, though clearly he has some way to go to be the type of player we need in our squad.
Once again, though, it is an indication that Daniel Levy didn’t back Mauricio Pochettino sufficiently enough – and that is a scenario will must now avoid with Jose Mourinho in charge.
This is depressing
