Spurs interested in Premiership winger

|

Despite Harry Kane being in great form with 17 goals in all competitions so far – a feat that has left him on the verge of breaking Tottenham Hotspur’s all-time goalscoring record set by Jimmy Greaves – doubts still abound over the potency and depth of Spurs’ attacking options going into the second half of this campaign.

Indeed, in the absence of Dejan Kulusevski, Spurs’ attack has looked one-dimensional and predictable. Heung-min Son’s drop-off in form has also stifled much of Spurs’ forward play, with the South Korea talisman only scoring in two league games this season.

Moreover, Richarlison’s injury problems have seen his minutes reduced and forced Antonio Conte into playing an extra midfielder or revert to Bryan Gil, who, despite a recent resurgence seeing him start the last three games, is not at the level of Kulusevski, Son, or Richarlison.

It very much makes sense that Spurs would be aiming to bolster their forward line this window, and several outlets have reported that the N17 outfit are interested in the services of 28-year-old Brighton winger Leandro Trossard.

According to FourFourTwo, Spurs have apparently had a ‘verbal offer’ knocked back for Trossard, with Brighton apparently not interested in losing the Belgian international halfway through a promising campaign.

Indeed, Trossard has started the season on fire, with his 7 goals so far this campaign helping his side breathe close down the necks of the European spots.

However, the Belgian has since slowed down as Brighton have exhibited some inconsistent recent form under Roberto de Zerbi. Indeed, 3 of those 7 goals have come in one match, when Trossard bagged a hat-trick against Liverpool at Anfield back in October.

Nevertheless, the versatility of the Belgian, who is able to play up front, on the wing, or as a wing-back if needed. makes him an appealing option for Conte, as well as other interested parties, such as Arsenal, Chelsea, and Newcastle.

Overall, however, Brighton’s decision to extend Trossard’s current deal – which was set to expire in the summer – by a further 12 months has given the Sussex outfit more breathing space and leverage in any potential negotiations with prospective suitors for Trossard’s signature, so it looks very much like anyone wanting the Belgian may very well have to wait until the summer to kickstart serious negotiations for him. We will see.
