Spurs in tussle for Bellingham

|

While all the talk this window has orientated around Tottenham Hotspur’s defensive issues – particularly in the wing-back department amid the impending arrival of Pedro Porro from Sporting CP – an interesting report doing the round from Football League World states that Spurs have started laying the groundwork ahead of a summer move for Birmingham City’s talented 17-year-old midfielder, Jobe Bellingham.

Of course, Jobe is the younger brother of Jude Bellingham, who is all the rage at the moment given that he appears destined to leave Borussia Dortmund this summer, but according to the report from Football League World, Jobe is equally in demand.

Without elaborating too much, the report states that Spurs will have to fend off a host of clubs from the Premier League as well as the Bundesliga to land Bellingham, who will require an interest club to agree a fee directly with the Saint Andrew’s outfit as they had already tied Jobe up to a professional contract on his 17th birthday back in September last year.

However, with only 18 months left on his deal, and a host of interested clubs knocking on the door of the Midlanders, John Eustace’s side are resigned to losing the precocious talent sooner rather than later.

Nevertheless, given Bellingham’s age and lack of top-flight experience, any deal done for him is one for the future rather than the here and now, so one expects that this would not fall under the category of “keep your eye on this come deadline day”.
