Spurs hit with further injury blows

|

Safe to say, it has not been the best of weeks for Tottenham Hotspur on the injury front. First, news came midweek that Hugo Lloris would be out for up to 7 weeks with knee ligament damage sustained in last week’s win against Manchester City. Then came the news on Friday that Yves Bissouma would require surgery on a stress fracture in his ankle.

Yesterday, Rodrigo Bentancur picked up a serious-looking knee injury around the hour-mark that saw him unable to complete yesterday’s match at the King Power Stadium. Although those of a Spurs persuasion will no doubt be encouraged to see that he didn’t need a stretcher to exit the pitch, the Urguyuan looked in a great deal of pain and the extent of his injury remains to be seen,

The bad news does not stop there. This morning it has been revealed that Ryan Sessegnon will be out for around 6 weeks with a hamstring injury. The worrying thing about this is that Sessegnon has a substantial previous history of hamstring trouble, with his first season at the club in particular disrupted heavily by such issues.

Getting another big hamstring injury at this stage in this career is not promising to say the least, and although he has failed to consistently produce the goods this season, the team being reduced to Ivan Perisic for 6 weeks is worrying in itself, as relying on a 34-year-old to play twice a week for up to 2 months is hardly a bullet-proof means of squad preservation.
