“Spurs have been quite public” – Mourinho tipped to negotiate “frightening” 23 y/o ace

Speaking to Football Insider, ex-Spurs keeper Paul Robinson has tipped Jose Mourinho to negotiate the sale of star midfielder Tanguy Ndombele this summer following public spouts between him and the player – with the ‘frightening‘ 23-year-old still yet to feature for us this season.

Ndombele, who signed from Lyon last summer for a club record £53.8 million, was starting to find his feet before lockdown – scoring two goals and assisting two others from midfield, now finds himself behind in Mourinho’s pecking order.

Harry Winks, Giovani Lo Celso and Moussa Sissoko have all featured in central midfield so far since the restart, with Ndombele still not being able to get in ahead of the trio.

Recently, reports indicated that Ndombele and Mourinho had a falling out – with the midfielder telling his manager that he ‘no longer’ wants to play under him, at least according to an update courtesy of TF1 via Get French Football News.

Now, potentially taking the rift into account as well as Spurs’ looming financial problems, ex-Tottenham shot-stopper Robinson has tipped the Lilywhites to offload Ndombele in order to accumulate funds.

As per the Athletic, chairman Daniel Levy and co recently had to borrow £175 million through the Bank of England as part of a government scheme due to revenue losses caused by the recent global pandemic.

The ex-England international, speaking to Football Insider, suggests that selling Ndombele may provide a solution.

“He is the club’s record signing,” explained Robinson.

“The last two games Jose has had a fully fit squad to choose from and Ndombele has not played a minute.

“Sissoko has returned and shown that he has been missed. He has played alongside Harry Winks and Lo Celso and those three are preferred to Ndombele in the two holding midfield roles.

“Spurs have been quite public about how the current financial situation has hit them as a club. Ndombele could be a player that Mourinho disposes of to raise money and strengthen elsewhere.”

Indeed, taking into account Robinson’s verdict, this could be an option for the Lilywhites – with Spurs now pondering the future of their ‘frightening‘ ace.
