Spurs gifted chance to sign 25 y/o who tackles more than Ndombele – Report

According to a development courtesy of French news outlet L’Equipe, Tottenham have been offered the chance to sign Olympique de Marseille midfielder Morgan Sanson by agent Pini Zahavi.

Indeed, the 25-year-old’s representative has apparently held talks with us, our north London rivals and Everton.

Sanson, who started 26 Ligue 1 games under ex-Spurs boss Andre Villas-Boas over the now-concluded 2019/2020 season, contributing to their revival and second-placed finish, is now reportedly being offered to a trio of Premier League clubs including Tottenham.

This comes following Marseille’s alleged need to generate much-needed funds before the start of next season, with the current global pandemic having a major impact on their finances.

It’s reported that the French side want to generate £53 million in player sales, and Sanson could be one of the players set to make way so Villas-Boas’ side can profit.

However, given the fact Marseille apparently want £30 million for their star midfielder, it could be a steep ask given chairman Daniel Levy’s reported stance on big money transfers – with a recent report from ESPN claiming that only a £25 million emergency buffer has been made available to manager Jose Mourinho.

According to WhoScored, Sanson made more tackles on average than any Spurs midfielder over the Ligue 1 campaign, including £53.8 million star signing Tanguy Ndombele.

The Frenchman also totalled a solid 86% pass success rate in that time whilst making 1.1 key passes per 90 minutes, potentially highlighting the fact he would be worth a punt.

You could argue, though, that our already-bolstered central midfield area doesn’t need any more investment – with priority debatably placed on finding a back-up forward to Harry Kane.
