Spurs Fans Shouldn’t Worry About Poch’s Latest Comments

|

Ahead of the weekend’s clash against Burnley at Wembley Stadium, Tottenham Hotspur manager Mauricio Pochettino told the media that it was possible he wouldn’t make any signings in the January transfer window.

With progression secured in the Champions League following our recent draw with Barcelona at the Nou Camp and with Spurs flying high in the Premier League given a more than sterling start to 2018/19, to me Poch is simply covering all the bases and downplaying things as it was only the other week he said he was always open to deals if he felt improvements could be made to the group.

Speaking to Sky Sports the gaffer admitted that he felt we would be busy, but it would more likely be sales for Fernando Llorente and Georges-Kevin N’Nkoudou.

In the case of Llorente though, I can’t imagine we’d let him go without some kind of additional body coming in just be on the safe side.

Asked if he’d be disappointed if fresh faces didn’t turn up in the New Year, he answered.

“No, not disappointed. I know very well that January is always difficult. In the same way, if you find some player, look what happened to different players that arrive in January last season. It takes time to understand and to perform, to fit with the team. Sometimes it’s better not to sign if you don’t find the right player.”

It’s also fair to say, Poch’s actual choice of words can be read as simply backing the current set of players again more than anything, as he often does that and the last sentence is a no-brainer, no manager deliberately signs the ‘wrong’ player after all.
