Spurs fans react to Son’s contract extension

South Korea international Heung-min Son extended his contract today with Spurs in a deal keeping the 29-year-old forward at the club until 2025.

The forward appeared ecstatic when he penned the contract, and his interview with Spurs TV reflected his emotions pretty clearly.

“There was no decision. It was easy. I’m so happy to be here and will be so glad to see the fans again soon,” Son said.

“It was already a big honour to play here for six years. The club have showed me massive, massive respect and obviously I’m very happy to be here.”

Meanwhile, fans on Twitter were equally as excited for the announcement, with one fan reacting by writing: “Happy days, something positive for a change at Spurs…hopefully this will be the start of better things …COYS.”

Another fan suggested Son should go down as a legend for his loyalty to the club, saying: “This man is honestly a Spurs legend. It would be so easy for him to leave and win things, but he cares about the club too much.”

In a busy summer of transfers for the club, one fan believes that this contract signing will no doubt go down as the best, saying: “Best signing of the summer, this guy genuinely loves the club as much as we love him.”

Many rival fans argued that his decision is an indicator of a lack of ambition – but with Fabio Paratici working hard at the club to overhaul the squad and put the team in the best possible position to win trophies, Son most likely recognises that Spurs are now one of the best placed clubs to win trophies next season.

The potential arrivals of Cristian Romero from Atalanta and Jules Kounde from Sevilla would definitely take the team to the next level, and should the club retain Harry Kane’s services for the next season, Nuno could have a top level squad heading into the campaign.
