Spurs fans react to Erik Lamela’s departure to Sevilla

|

Erik Lamela’s time at Tottenham as a whole would have to go down as unsuccessful, despite winning over the majority of fans due to his ever-present commitment to the club and supporters.

The deal to swap him for Sevilla winger Bryan Gil (plus £21.4 million) has now been completed and his time at the club is over – putting an end to an eight year spell in which he made 255 appearances across all competitions and scored 37 goals.

Considering Lamela scored 15 Serie A goals in the season before he joined Spurs at Roma as a 20-21-year-old, his return has been nearly woeful – but his work ethic for the team and passion for the club was definitely valuable within the squad.

The Argentinean wrote a message to the club’s supporters on Twitter, which read: “Spurs fans, what a journey! I felt the shirt the same way you did. These memories will stay with me forever. I thank my teammates, the people at the club and the fans for cheering for me on in every game, I will miss you. I’m going to carry this club with me forever.”

Despite fans wanting him sold this Summer anyway before the transfer, the goodbye has still been a sad one for most Spurs fans – particularly on Twitter.

Spurs fan Dave wrote: “Thanks for everything. Love the rabonas…love the wind ups on Wilshere, on Fabregas, on Martial. Thanks for your heart and soul on the pitch. Best of luck. Hopefully see you back at some stage.”

Meanwhile, one fan summed up Lamela in three words perfectly, saying: “Passion, flair, chaos. You were everything that epitomises Tottenham Hotspur. Good luck, and thank you for all the memories, Erik. This will always be your home. Come back soon.”

Some fans believe if other members of the squad had Lamela’s drive and mentality, the club’s fortunes would be different but for the better, with one fan writing: “Thanks Erik, you always did your best. If only others had your drive and mentality we might have achieved more in recent years.”

We wish Coco all the best at his new club – and don’t forget – Everywhere you go, always take Lamela with you.
