Spurs Duo Remain Doubts For Midweek City Tie But Poch Continues To Be Optimistic

|

Tottenham Hotspur manager Mauricio Pochettino was rightly delighted with our comfortable 4-0 victory over Huddersfield Town at White Hart Lane at the weekend, but speaking post-game he admitted that both Dele Alli and Harry Winks would be assessed late on for any potential involvement on Wednesday evening.

Spurs established a 1-0 advantage on home soil in the Champions League quarter-final first leg, but now we have to finish the job up at the Etihad Stadium in the midweek second leg, and following Alli’s fractured hand, the expectation was he’d miss out at the weekend to let the injury settle, and then potentially come back into Poch’s thoughts for Wednesday with the obligatory protective cast.

Speaking to Sky Sports following the win, Poch admitted it wasn’t a straight break and that has complicated things a little.

“We’ll see because we are not sure. He is doing some training sessions with protection. He needs to feel comfortable. It is a little bit painful because he broke his hand in two different places. It all depends on time. We will see if we arrive in a position where he is comfortable to play. We’ll see, today is difficult to know.”

As for Winks, he missed out at the weekend having picked up a groin problem during training, so he faces a late fitness test as well.

“In the middle of training he started to feel something painful in his groin. He’s a player we need to assess tomorrow, and then after tomorrow take a decision. We are optimistic, but you know there is doubt.”
