Spurs Crash Out Of Another Cup As A Bad Week Gets Worse – Match Stats

|

With Tottenham Hotspur’s EFL Cup run coming to an end in midweek following defeat to Chelsea, manager Mauricio Pochettino would’ve been hoping to extend our spell in the FA Cup as we faced Crystal Palace in the fourth round earlier today.

Heading to Selhurst Park for the tie, the gaffer made a number of changes and fans had the chance to see more of Kyle Walker-Peters and Kevin Nkoudou who came into the starting eleven for the game.

On paper, there was every reason for confidence, but as we know, football takes place on a pitch and nine minutes in the hosts took the lead to upset the party. In the 34th minute they doubled their advantage from the penalty spot and if anyone was in doubt as to whether it was going to be one of those days, Kieran Trippier missed from 12 yards just ahead of the break as we wasted a penalty opportunity of our own.

2-0 was how it finished and plenty will feel we should’ve got more from the game as we dominated possession and had 19 chances overall, but with only four on target that problems are obvious.

A third penalty miss in two games, and out of two Cups inside of a week.

Plenty will no doubt feel it’s season over but injuries and a performance wobble have hit at the wrong point.
