Spurs At The European Championships Thread

|

After a long, hard and ultimately disappointing season for Tottenham Hotspur, we have a busy summer in store now as we look to both sort out our managerial situation as well as strengthen the group via the transfer market – as massive question being Harry Kane’s own future.

Whilst we’ll hopefully have our new manager in within a few weeks (or maybe our old manager given the Mauricio Pochettino rumours) it’s unlikely much will happen on a transfer front until we see the culmination of this summers European Championship competition.

In a world still dealing with Covid, personally, I think international football is slightly ridiculous at this moment in time, but money makes the world go round doesn’t it – Spurs fans will however have a natural interest in the tournament given the players and former players that should be on show.

If nothing else it’ll be a distraction for a few weeks – so anything Euro related can go in here VSers.

Hi TK…..feeling my age today, have spent 3 days helping my daughter pack up her house to move!

  • TQ2Spurs says:

I guess we have nothing to lose hiring Conte for a couple of seasons until Poch is free to return.

It is likely to lead to a period of instability but this will be short term pain for long term gain. Conte is very passionate and is unlikely to suffer fools gladly, we have a number of players who have been ‘too comfortable’ and turn out without showing any of the passion for winning that he himself clearly has and demonstrates regularly on the sideline.

    Hi TQ
That was much my thought when we got Mourinho, 2 years of pain, a trophy or two, then get Poch back, didn’t work out that way, hopefully Conte (if he comes) will sort the “Gordian Knot” that is Spurs.
Fek me at 58 I feel like the baby of the bunch, just back from climbing in the “Mourne Mountains” and yes they do sweep to the sea.
For some of you older guys, here’s my stolen catch phrases.
Don’t trust a fart, never pass a toilet, never waste a hard on and don’t let the old guy in.

  • 123spurs says:

Looks like Conte is to scared of a challenge.

  • block 108 spurs says:

LT… no worries… as geof would say. πŸ™‚

  • Pauric says:

Conte ain’t no mug, he smelt a rat (Daniel Levy).

  • TK says:

No Poch, no Conte? Oh well. We are still the Spurs and there ain’t no other like Spurs. No other club provides a roller coaster ride the equal to ours.

And remember this: No Mourinho either. Life is good.

  • Spurfect One says:

Unless there was some massive investment coming that no one knows about, i always thought Conte was a weird fit simply because of his high demands in a short space of time. Levy won’t provide the necessary funds. Seems like Levy wants big name managers to appease fans but is not prepared to actually follow the blueprint those managers build their success on.

  • TQ2Spurs says:

I have a feeling Levy has a trick up his sleeve connected to the naming rights and the reports that were circulating a couple of weeks ago about raising money in the US. Just a hunch!

  • Geofspurs says:

So it seems Conte is out of the game. mThe longer the saga goes the nearer the tea Lady is to starting her managerial career!

  • Geofspurs says:

Happy birthday LT. Look after yourself, stay healthy, keep content, and don’t stop living until you die. : – )

  • DoncasterHotspur says:

The season ticket renewal deadline has passed and the talks with Conte have ended. Coincidence – I don’t think so. Sorry TQ2spurs but Levy has nothing up his sleeve. The dalliance with Poch and then Conte were only to do with season ticket renewals. Events have shown that neither of those deals were going to happen. Levy has embarrassed the club again, unfortunately he is accountable to no one and will continue his reign of incompetence until the club is sold.

  • block 108 spurs says:

Spurs are in the situation of a rebuild of players so effectively a project. Conte has not shown he can do this.. just a 2 or 3 year contract buy expensive top players…. highly intensive management and demanding of discipline win some silverware depart the club. So effectively same as Jose.

IMO… Levy would be reduced to a hands off role of senior player management, and his THFC “direction” acdemy of young player development to enter senior squad or sold for profits, would be looking off track. Poch did set up his method of coaching the same way for all squad teams so youngsters can follow the playing systems as 1st team players… Skipp/Tanganga etc.

So we are back to someone like G Potter / Eddie Howe etc. who has the brand of attacking and flowing play spurs are renowned for and can work with the 1st team players and have the ability to instil the same methods down the to the youngest teams. Most importantly for Levy, a manager who will work with minimal funding for new players… Therefore a Poch mk2.

  • TQ2Spurs says:

DH….I still think your assertion that talk of Poch returning or Conte joining was just about selling season tickets, if it was it clearly didn’t work as both yourself and block 108 have decided not to renew and you are 2 of a very small sample on here which is likely to translate into many more doing the same.

That said, I am with you in thinking that Levy seems to be making a real mess of things right now. I know we are in difficult times financially but most clubs are in the same sticky stuff so we should still be competing on roughly the same level as all other clubs that adhere to the spirit of FFP.

There seems to be little realism in much of the game, I read an article today the claims Kingsley Coman is asking for 20m euros a year to extend his Bayern contract which they are reluctant to pay, probably because they can’t afford it right now, so he has instructed his agent to sound out PL clubs. We all know that there are only 2 or 3 clubs who could pay that without having to think if they could afford it or not.
