Spurs At The European Championships Thread

|

After a long, hard and ultimately disappointing season for Tottenham Hotspur, we have a busy summer in store now as we look to both sort out our managerial situation as well as strengthen the group via the transfer market – as massive question being Harry Kane’s own future.

Whilst we’ll hopefully have our new manager in within a few weeks (or maybe our old manager given the Mauricio Pochettino rumours) it’s unlikely much will happen on a transfer front until we see the culmination of this summers European Championship competition.

In a world still dealing with Covid, personally, I think international football is slightly ridiculous at this moment in time, but money makes the world go round doesn’t it – Spurs fans will however have a natural interest in the tournament given the players and former players that should be on show.

If nothing else it’ll be a distraction for a few weeks – so anything Euro related can go in here VSers.

I pray that Christian Eriksen is still with us.

    • Love totty says:

Feel sick for Christian’s family. Shocking.

      • 62rovinella says:

Let’s all offer up prayers…. really sad….that was beyond words….like his breathing was locked off….I pray he pulls through ๐Ÿ™๐Ÿ™๐Ÿ™….. come on eriksen…

  • TQ2Spurs says:

Latest is that his condition has been stabilsed and he has been transferred to hospital. Now saying that he is awake, thank the Lord!

  • 123spurs says:

    Glad he is OK,

  • jod says:

DoncasterHotspur – And yet you fail to tell me who that person is, strange.

  • TQ2Spurs says:

Says a lot about you jod that at this moment you are only concerned with a petty argument with another poster.

  • TQ2Spurs says:

Anyway, it must be good news in regards to Christian as the match is being restarted shortly. I feel so relieved for his lovely wife and two children.

  • DoncasterHotspur says:

Jod – I really canโ€™t be bothered to tell you as most of your responses seem to be based on things people havenโ€™t actually said, If you want to look at some of my recent posts please feel free. Thank god Christin is OK. Thoughts with his family at the moment.

  • wentworth says:

Always loved Christian Eriksen. Fabulous passer, great control, good feet, superb free kick taker. Good luck mate. Thinking of you.

  • TQ2Spurs says:

Good to hear that all is well and he is undergoing tests, would be a shame if it results in him having to quit playing.

Well….we have an official appointment at last, just need a manager now.

  • block 108 spurs says:

i was also shocked to see Christian get CPR / Defibrillator by medics on the pitch, thanks to god his times was not up today. So glad to see a photo of him being carried off and awake holding his face. Reminded me of that game at WHL and Bolton player collapsing… terrible… but lucky he survived, and now eriksen has as well. Get well soon christian…

  • Danny Winter says:

I was lucky enough to not see Marc Viviene Foe, nor Fabrice Muamba ‘live’ so to speak.

Watching that has changed my entire night and I honestly thought he was gone as his eyes brought back some horrible memories from when I lost my mother. Credit to everyone on that pitch for their response and speed and then credit to any medical staff involved for their own speed, quick reactions and quick action, as for me, that made all the difference – they stepped up when needed and got it spot on..

No credit to the broadcasters for focusing on his missus and trying to get the cheap shot, but credit to Kasper and their captain for making sure her face was covered.

I’m not religious but my thoughts and prayers for what they count for are with CE and his family for a full recovery and thankfully, the latest news suggests he’s on his way to just that.

I only hope it’s a long time before we see anything similar ever again.

I trust everyone is well and enjoying the break, other than today’s shock to the system.

  • Niall D says:

My thoughts and prayers are with Christian and his family right now, I hope he makes full recovery.
Though for him football is probably now over, and in many ways with our comments, and petty arguments, does it really, really matter, just as long as the guy is well.
    Stay safe all of you.

  • Geofspurs says:

That was the worst 15/20 minutes I have ever seen on a football pitch. It could have been so much worse if it had not been handled so well be EVERYONE (team-mates, medics, officials, supporters) inside the stadium. Let’s hope Christian recovers well.

  • Spurfect One says:

What happened to Eriksen today really made me think back of how he was the orchestra of Pochettino’s team at their pomp. A truly elegant player.

    • Love totty says:

Good luck Christian. Fully deserving of legend status imo. Nearest thing to Glen we have had in 30 years and bested only by Modric and Gazza in our midfield. Boy have we missed him.

  • Hot Tottingham says:

Christian my man! Here’s hoping for a full recovery.

A shocking realisation that even star footballers are humans too. And their lives are as frail and as precious as any one of us… No matter the money they earn. No matter which club they play for… No matter!

All the best to you Christian Eriksen-sen-sen…..

  • Hot Tottingham says:

So my fellow Spuds… We have a new Managing Director of Football. Next step will be the new Head Coach. And then, some new players….. And a new look Spurs…

    Welcome to N17 Mr. Paratici!

  • Niall D says:

    Yes HT,
Hopefully between them they’ll get us on the right track, bearing in mind that even though last season we were poor by our standards, there was still a chance of CL football even at the end of April, so there really ain’t much to fix, depending on who, who remains and who comes in.
    COYS
Come on Christian, we’re all behind you.

  • Niall D says:

That should’ve been, who goes, who remains and who comes in.
Hope today’s game is a good one and not a lethargic, tepid, testy first game, would love to see Grealish on the pitch, he does offer something different, in many ways the modern Gazza.

  • PompeyYid says:

Not being a great religion follower, I say My God! and hope you get better soon CE.

To a degree the incident that happened with Muamba v Bolton at the Lane, has so much to do these days on how the medics reacted yesterday, a life saved.

I think I am fortunate that I didn’t witness the collapse of CE as I was clicking between the Test match, seeing how awful England’s bats men were, and the game, all I saw was the reaction by the medics at the game, a very well done to them, high praise from us all.

As a player who gave me/us so many excellent memories, esp that goal v the Chavs us winning 1-3, I thank you and wish yourself and your family all the best, get well soon mate. COYS

Just completed a 20 hour trip from New York City to Pernambuco, Brazil. When I unpacked and checked in on the wider world through the net I was shocked to see the story about our old mate, Christian Eriksen. I didn’t go through the event, so I knew from the beginning of the story that he survived. Man, live is so fragile. I’ve lost several friends and neighbors in the last 15 months–most through COVID. Boggles the mind to still see people refusing to participate in basic simple things that save live–wearing masks, getting vaccinated, and the like. For this to have become some kind of political game disgusts me.

jod–stop demanding that other people tell you who they would prefer as a manager. I opposed JM from the second he was announced as our new manager, but my understanding that he would be a disaster did not require that I name a replacement the day I express outrage that he was hired. WTF, mate. Chill. Maybe I should demand that you find me my next wife, or chose the name of my next son (you never know), but that would be equally ridiculous. Put simply, we can decide for ourselves what comments we want to make.

Frankly, I don’t care all that much who our next manager is. I just want him (her?) to be a place holder until Poch comes back. But if that never happens, it may be for the best, no? None of us know the future, but I sure knew that JM wouldn’t turn out will.

Beautiful winter weather here in Pernambuco. 27 degrees Celcius, 81 F. No real rain for the next few days. Not many football matches on the beach because of lockdown restrictions. COVID still raging here, but vaccines just now becoming available.

Good to be back on the site, mates. Brazil vs. Venezuela tonight, but little enthusiasm for football here compared to normal times. People generally think it crazy to host Copa America in the midst of the plague of a century. Too much death to get happy about football, even for Brazilians.
