Spurs Are Poor As Chelsea Take The Win, But The Headlines Will Be About Other Matters – Match Stats

|

So Christmas is almost here and Tottenham Hotspur fans were hoping to say goodbye to football for 48 odd hours with a win over Chelsea as we welcomed Jose Mourinho’s former side to White Hart Lane.

We clearly weren’t at our best in the opening 45 minutes and after 12 minutes, Willian had given the visitors the lead, and deep into first half stoppage time, he doubled their advantage to grab a brace.

We needed a response in the second period and we didn’t really get one. Things didn’t improve as just after the hour mark Son Heung-Min got his marching orders and we were down to ten men and it was pretty much over as a contest at that stage, although fans did have the joy of seeing a potential penalty decision scrubbed out by the Video Assistant Referee nonsense – after its upgrade on the Sonny incident and involvement in their penalty call.

Maybe the only positive was in not conceding again but with bottles and alleged racist chanting, the fallout from this game will continue for a while.
