Spurs ace compared to Ballon d’Or winner is proving he is club’s most important player – Opinion

|

It’s been a few days since Heung-min Son’s goal of the season contender against Burnley, yet here we are still talking about how audacious it was.

On a day where Harry Kane netted two great goals and beautifully assisted Moussa Sissoko in Tottenham’s 5-0 demolishing of the Clarets, it is Son who fans and the media are still talking about, with BBC Sport pundit Garth Crooks comparing the South Korean international to Ballon d’Or winner George Weah for his slalom goal.

Indeed, the former Bayer Leverkusen has proven to be one of Tottenham’s most prolific players since the start of last season, with stats from Transfermarkt showing that Son has scored 30 goals and assisted a further 19 in all competitions for the north London side since the start of the 2018/19 season.

Is Heung-Min Son our best player?

Yes

No

And Son’s incredible goal against Burnley yet again proved how important the former Bundesliga ace has been for Tottenham over the past two seasons, but it isn’t just the quality of the strikes that go to show how important the 27-year-old is for Tottenham.

It is easy to forget that Son’s goal against the Clarets came from a set-piece opportunity for Sean Dyche’s side, a situation where Tottenham have proven under Jose Mourinho to be fairly shaky at with West Ham and Olympiakos both scoring from corners as well as Harry Wilson netting from a free-kick for Bournemouth, and the winger’s ability to turn defence into a goal is nothing short of spectacular.

Son’s magical run and finish will be a contender for Premier League goal of the season, yet the South Korean’s phase of immense quality only goes to cap just how important the attacker has become for the club, and that he will be a driving factor in Tottenham turning their season around.
