Southampton Legend Hails Spurs Manager As “Best” Of His Career

|

Southampton legend Rickie Lambert knows Tottenham Hotspur manager Mauricio Pochettino pretty well from their time together at St Mary’s Stadium, and in a recent interview the former Liverpool and England striker hailed Poch as the best manager he’d worked under in his career.

The two only spent just over 12 months together in the Premier League before Poch made the switch to White Hart Lane and Lambert himself moved onto Anfield, but speaking to their Official Site (via the Daily Echo) as he reflected on his career, he stated that he had ‘three excellent managers’ during his time as a player, but our gaffer was absolutely top of the pile in his mind.

“I had three excellent managers. The three best managers I had in my career were the ones at Southampton, but the best one was Mauricio Pochettino. He was just brilliant, everything about him. On the pitch, technically, he had a different way to look at it, and learning from him was one of the best things I’ve ever done in football. Off the pitch, he really cared about you as well – every single person in the club, from the players to the staff. He really made everyone feel special.”

With Poch coming in for some criticism given our start to the 2019/20 Premier League campaign with only one win in four matches prior to the September international break getting in the way of real football, it’s good to see our Argentine manager come in for some praise.

After his own words following our run to the Champions League Final, I can’t have been the only one who expected a bit of a transition period with our new arrivals (and our departures) as the gaffer made it pretty clear he wanted a rebuild but that was never going to happen overnight, and it would take time for our newbies to settle in.

With the more emotional amongst us already saying we’ve blown the title and top four again, maybe we should just be a little more patient?
