Worrying news. Our brightest young talent Dilan Markanday seems to be going to Blackburn. Surely we should be fighting to keep talented youngsters.

  • TK says:

    WW,
Or, someone at Spurs has decided that Markanday doesn’t have what they’re looking for. The Shadow knows.

    • wentworth says:

Some interesting articles today on our signings since 2015.
Only a handful have been successful including Son at £27 million.
Have a think for a moment of all the unsuccessful signings we have made including most who are now in our present squad.
We do need someone who can scout and override the tight fisted, bargain buying Levy.
Do we really have to furnish our lovely home with tatty furniture?
Will we support Conte with a couple of much needed improvements?
Or will Man Utd tempt our much celebrated coach with an offer he cannot refuse?

  • Niall D says:

    Hi WW
Didn’t honestly see that coming Conte to ManU, but I suppose it could happen, he is looking more and more frustrated with every game, and perhaps its too big a job even for him.
I do think that if we have say 50 mil to spend, we buy an established player, rather than 2 prospects, at 25 mil each, which to a degree we have been doing.
These 19/20 year old “wonder kids” so far ain’t cutting the mustard.
With that said, I believe Ericsson is up for grabs for nowt, why not bring him back, he’s used to Spurs and Conte, it appears that his condition is under control, pay as you play deal may suit both parties, who knows. If he is back to where he was it’s a good signing, if his head is right, if he’s the Ericsson just before he left us then forget it.
With that said it would leave cash for another signing.

  • wentworth says:

Niall the other issue is that we sometimes only get crowds of 4000 more than the old ground.
We only get 65,000 for the few top teams.
Therefore imho, we need to invest in the team to attract the crowds and bring in more funds. Our ticket prices are also very high.
I can see Conte becoming increasingly frustrated. He knows our weaknesses of which there are many. We only have 3 really top players in Lloris, Son and Kane.
There is so much to do. So far no one sold and no decent transfer in. Even the young prospect Papa Sarr is unable to get in the Metz team after being loaned back.

  • TK says:

Damned Gooners have done a goner. They’ve whimped out of the derby. And gotten away with it.

    • wentworth says:

But TK we had the prospect of a team without Son, Romero and Dier. At the end of the season, we shall have our brilliant new signings (!!!) and be rid of all the weak links plus our young stars (!!) will be champing at the bit.
I will miss the game tomorrow but live in hope we can get a win later on. Tomorrow could have been an embarrassment. We need to keep the disillusioned Conte.
      Man Utd are watching closely.

  • Niall D says:

100 %WW hence my initial complaint about the new stadium many moons ago.
But I was roundly criticised by many on this, site for my complaint.
I actually wasn’t complaining around the new Stadium but it was the overspend on (for me) un needed extras.
However we are where we are.
And perhaps post Covid the crowds will improve.
But to enforce my criticism of our scouting system, and Jods many complaints, about where is the money coming from (yawn), I look at the money spent on Gil and Papa Sar, could this money not have been better spent on an established player rather than two young bloods, did we not learn from Clarke and Froyth???
But WW we are looking for answers, there are those who just want to pose criticism and questions. 😉

  • TQ2Spurs says:

I think it’s a bit naive to think that income from the footballing operations is being used to fund the housing and cinema development which, by the way, is opposite the stadium off the High Road, not within the stadium complex.

  • 123spurs says:

As I said we can’t be buying fkr the future all the time, it’s def not working, and likes of gil will never get much game time now

We need to buy a seasonal player ready made mid to late 20’s with experience.

  • Hot Tottingham says:

    Agreed TQ…

The entire Northumberland Development Project is being devloped on borrowed money as well as substantial public money for local housing and transport etc Of course it is. And a large part of why THFC was given planning permission by Haringey Council for the new stadium has to do with the whole regeneration project of the area as well as the stadium itself. The properties and land that is now being utilised and developed for flats, cinema etc; already purchased by ENIC?THFC over many years, form the purpose of this regeneration.

And the flats and businessess that form a part of this regeneration are then huge money earners for ENIC/THFC that will in turn, help to pay off the stadium/club debts.

I’m over simplyfing all this. But buying players is not effected by the development of flats etc. But it does all mean that this kind of investment will put THFC in a much greater position to spend big on it’s team in the foreseeable future. And develop THFC further, as a worldwide brand. This is what big money in football is all about, I’m afraid. (Only much more complex than I can hope to explain on here)

Footballers cannot be bought via this same, borrowed and/or public regeneration and local infrastructure funding. I thought that we all should know this by now.

  • Niall D says:

    Hi folks
Whilst this is good information PY, and hopefully this comes to fruition.
My main concern was that our focus and indeed funds are not on the football ground.
Whilst this hopefully may fund the football side of things, but in recent past and just now my feelings were that focus was off the team, and I suppose this latest venture is just a concern that focus is off the team.
But as you have said it is part and parcel of a larger plan for the area which was involved in the initial plan. Cheers m8 😉

  • TQ2Spurs says:

Niall……I think this is why Paratici was brought in to run the footballing operations, it leaves Levy with more time to give to the development project while not being so involved and losing focus on footballing matters.

  • Hot Tottingham says:

    Hi, Niall…

Harry Kane, Hugo et al; Conte, Paratici and Hitchen (I can hopefully assure you) are probably not in any way sidetracked or distracted by the Northumberland Developement Project, when it comes to winning football matches etc… 😉

    Although Levy probably is!

By the by… At the end of the day… Talking of the football itself. Spurs are just 10 points off Chelsea (in 2nd place) and with 4 games in hand on them… That’s not such a bad thing, is it? As it stands… If I’m to be positive… And Hod knows, someone has to be!

Of course it means nothing if we don’t win most of those games in hand…

But even so, to be sat in 6th place right now, given our inconsitent football and suspended matches – and doubts on many of our players’ individual abilities – lack of ins and outs etc – this ain’t so bad… Is it?!

    • PompeyYid says:

HT thats a huge YES!, regards games in hand, 4 games = 12pts hopefully, thus equal 2nd with the Scousers though they would have played 1 game less, looking good if it happens lol! COYS

  • TK says:

We were cheated out of winning the NLD yesterday, Damned Gooners.

Yes, I know, we could have lost, but we would have won. At least in my version of events.

On the building in the neighborhood around the new stadium: What better way to recruit new signings of good players than to have them move to an area that looks to be on the up direction rather than wallowing in despair.

To build the neighborhood is to build the club. We are not a separate little island on a sea of misery. It does THFC no good to live and play where people riot out of despair. We are in it with our neighbors. There is no separation. It’s foolish to think the club can be separated from the environment.

But let’s not price those who live there out of the neighborhood. Building the neighborhood must be for the neighborhood, not to gentrify it for Uncle Joe and Daniel the Sphinx.

Build the club in a healthy place. These are our neighbors.

  • TQ2Spurs says:

I believe Leicester have quite a few important players out injured which should give us a slight advantage on Wednesday, I also think we have a decent record at the King Power so I hope we go for them from kick-off.

  • Niall D says:

    Hi HT,
Nope you’re right, not worried as long as we remember we are a football team first and fore most and whilst the other investment is welcome provided the profits go the right way.
But TBH don’t know, enough about the whole bigger business of the stadium.
If the investment builds, a community who support the club I’m in.
As you say we aren’t far off Chelsea in the league, points, wise with many winnable games in the “locker” we do have a good V good 13 or so players , for me it’s our squad which needs a bit of tweaking.
Re Chelsea we could argue that whilst they were the better team over the two previous games, we were the architects of our down fall in all the goals conceded.
On another occasion we would’ve gotten a draw at the bridge and sneaked a win at home.
However, the benches on each occasion showed the chasm between the squads.
But here’s hoping that we beat Leicester mid week, for two reasons :
I feel they also cheated re their Covid issues, just like Arse
Also they are serial divers on a par with Manure, the last time we beat em they were given 2 pens.
    COYS. 😉

  • wentworth says:

Agreed Niall. We can just about put out a competitive 1st team although we are very short of midfield inspiration.
I had hoped this transfer window would have brought some much needed pruning and a couple of inspired signings. It seems as though we are stumbling towards the bargain basement/ cheap loans end of the month. I can understand no one calling for at least 6 of our present squad but will be very disheartened if we don’t strengthen in at least 2 key positions.
We are half way through January. Conte must be given some hope. Man Utd are already sniffing around and could easily tempt him away in the summer. They are desperate for a top coach and have the squad to attract Conte.

  • Frank says:

January window passing us by, what a shock, we are getting left behind yet again, due to a lack of ambition by Lewis and Levy who are too busy leaving a legacy of high value vanity property, rather than a winning and successful football club. It’s not as if we don’t need new players to supplement our very average squad, if we are serious about a top 4 and CL challenge. There are now 14 days left in the window for THFC to deliver some ammunition to Conte. It may well be that he walks if he doesn’t get backing.
