“Sissoko Jesus Christ” Was Not The Highlight From Spurs’ Victory Over Aston Villa – Match Stats

|

Tottenham Hotspur were back in Premier League action earlier today after what felt like a long summer given Champions League disappointment last year, but we welcomed Aston Villa back to the big league for opening day.

Record summer capture Tanguy Ndombele took his place in midfield for manager Mauricio Pochettino in the starting lineup, but he was the only fresh face selected for this one.

Spurs started incredibly brightly and were dominating the game, but nine minutes in with had their first attack and opened the scoring. It seemed like it would be one of those days as despite still dominating, we just couldn’t find a way through them and some glorious chances – we are all unfortunately looking at Mr Sissoko here – went begging.

After another scramble in their box, Ndombele opened his club account to draw us level and it was nothing less than we deserved. As the match came to a close Harry Kane capitalised twice to bag a brace to give us the win.

Again deserved, but Villa made us work for that, probably in a way we weren’t anticipating.
