Inter Milan could make a move for Toby Alderweireld if they sell Milan Skriniar this summer, according to the Gazzetta Dello Sport (via Calciomercato.com).

The Italian newspaper believe the Belgian international is the Serie A club’s “Plan B” if a club matches their €80million (£70.5m) valuation for their Slovakian defender.

Skriniar is the subject of interest from Barcelona and Manchester United, with the latter reportedly having offered €65million for the centre-back.

If United do go after the Inter player, it would likely mean they would withdraw their interest in Toby. The Manchester Evening News reported earlier this month that the Belgian isn’t their top priority this summer, so it would lend some credence to La Gazzetta‘s story.

As the Italian publication points out, such a bid for Skriniar could fund Inter’s pursuit of our no.4. Whatever the case, it is highly speculative reporting at the moment. As long as the 29-year-old remains in the World Cup, there will be no talks about a potential move.

  • Not sure how good he is, but if Utd and Barca are watching him and Poch fancies him then it makes sense to pursue the swap deal. He’s 23 years old and can be deployed in holding midfield based on what I read. Not sure Toby’s thoughts on heading to Inter Milan though. Is this the Levy master plan unfolding?

  • Is he proven? Is he as good as Toby? Unlikely I’d suggest, so if someone pays 70m for him then we should demand at least 90m for Alderweireld

  • Inter should be very careful here. They don’t have to sale Skriniar to buy a player whom they don’t much about. I know inter need money for other purchases, but is the player they intend to purchase better than Skriniar? This is like penny wise pound foolish. Remember, a bird at hand is worth two in the bush.
