Tottenham face the first of three American opponents tonight, as they start their pre season workout against Seattle.

With Adebayor, Sandro and Chiriches injured and the World Cup players still to return, it will be a somewhat makeshift team, as is the usual routine in early warm up games, but when there is a new manager, even with no new players, it often gives a little hint at what may be and who is and isn`t in his plans.

Talk that Sandro isn`t injured and is closing in on a move to Italy or wherever, may be true, but so much can and probably will happen over the next few weeks, before we face west Ham in the opening Prem game. Is tonight a chance for Michael Dawson to show his quality and save his Spurs career?

What chance for Soldado, Lamela or whoever else to recover from disappointing seasons to prove their worth. Though usually disappointing, half paced affairs, opening pre season games are very much must see football, regardless of the result and performance for what happens off, as much as on the pitch.

It will be interesting to see what influence Poch has had on the team, in terms of shape and attitude, even if we have only minor clues of the team personnel. Some selections will as such pick themselves. Friedel in goal, Dawson and Kaboul in defence, with Rose/Fryers and Walker/Naughton at Full back. It will also be interesting to see if and where the likes of Archer, Fredericks and Veljkovic, Mason, Falque and a few others

With Paulinho, Dembele, Bentaleb and Sandro missing, is this a game for Capoue to impress or just keep the place warn for Morgan Schneiderlin? Alongside him, will we see Tom Carroll get some much needed game time? The reality is that we are severely lacking senior midfield numbers on this tour. Will this be the time we see Lewis Holtby move from No10 to No6?

Lennon, Townsend and hopefully Lamela will be available, Eriksen, Holtby and the wherever bound Sigurdsson, will make up the creative spaces behind, the only two experienced (ish) strikers of Soldado and Harry Kane. Will there be any surprise appearances? Has Poch identified a little known gem from the development squad and we get to be amazed at the quality of their play? I have no idea, but this is what excites us about pre season games or at least should do…
