Harry Kane has been named England skipper for the World Cup Finals in Russia next month.
The news was announced this morning and our no.10 took to Twitter to express his delight at being chosen by Gareth Southgate to lead the team out at the tournament:
A very proud day. It means a lot to me to be named @England captain. A massive thanks to family, friends and fans who have supported me through thick and thin. 🦁🦁🦁 #EnglandCaptain #ThreeLions pic.twitter.com/afncNkoVnd

Fans on Twitter were quick to congratulate Harry on the news:
You’re the definition of hard work, commitment and dedication. A role model, not just for football, but life in general; you never gave up. Well deserved, Harry. ????????????????????????

Perhaps this might prompt Poch to make Harry captain of Spurs. Daft having a goalie as captain. How can he gee his team up stuck between the posts? If he comes out to holler at ‘em he’ll get lobbed. The Captain has got to be amongst ‘em.

Verdict:
Being the country’s most talented player, he will lead by example, and it’s great to see Harry being given the opportunity to captain the national team.
He seems the type of character that will take it in his stride, and hopefully, things will go well for him and the team. It will be a young team heading into the competition and at 24 years of age, the striker is by no means among the elder statesmen in the squad either.
I’m sure his past experience of major tournaments, and playing for us in the Champions League will hold him in good stead.
