Report: ‘Turbulent start’ could see Tottenham’s ‘underperforming’ defender sold in January

|

Serge Aurier was surplus to requirements over the summer but ended up staying at Tottenham after failing to find a suitor.

Mauricio Pochettino then brought him back into the first-team, but Gary Jacob of The Times says the 26-year-old has been ‘underperforming’ during Spurs’ ‘turbulent start’ to the season and could be sold in January.

Aurier has made four appearances in all competitions this season, picking up two yellow cards and being sent off once. He was keeping Kyle Walker-Peters and Juan Foyth out at right-back but may find himself dropped in the future.

The Ivorian international struggled in Tottenham’s 2-1 defeat to Leicester City (September 21), was sent off after 30 minutes in a 2-1 win over Southampton (September 28) and badly underperformed in a 7-2 defeat to Bayern Munich (October 1). It’s no surprise Pochettino wants him out in the coming months.

Aurier is said to be on a list of unwanted players that will be shown the door, but it remains to be seen which club he’ll join. AS Monaco and Paris Saint-Germain were linked over the summer while AC Milan showed interest in September, but his poor form might put suitors off in January. Time will tell.
