Report: Tottenham will have to make decision on potential £45m club-record signing

Tottenham have been linked with a move for Ryan Sessegnon this summer but agreeing a transfer fee with Fulham has proven difficult. Despite the 19-year-old having just one year left on his contract at Craven Cottage and rejecting the chance to stay past 2020, Fulham still want £45m from Tottenham for his signature.

Until Tanguy Dembele joins from Olympique Lyonnais, this deal would make Sessegnon Spurs’ record-signing after Davinson Sanchez’s £42m move from Ajax in 2017. The Londoners don’t want to pay so much for Sessegnon, likely because they already have Danny Rose & Ben Davies at left-back and Heung-min, Erik Lamela & Lucas Moura who can operate on the wing.

The 19-year-old has been tipped for a bright future, but his only Premier League season didn’t quite go to plan. Fulham suffered relegation back to the Championship and Sessegnon struggled for consistency – 35 appearances, two goals, six assists, 33 chances created, 32 successful dribbles (47%), 13 accurate crosses (20%), 22 tackles, 19 interception and 38 clearances.

If Fulham won’t budge on the wide-man’s asking price, Tottenham have a tricky decision to make. Latest reports say Spurs are confident of landing Sessegnon, but they may need to cough up more money.
