Report: Tottenham trio to leave club in ‘post-Pochettino reversion’ to transfer strategy

|

Tottenham youngsters Oliver Skipp, Kyle Walker-Peters and Japhet Tanganga could all leave the club in January as Jose Mourinho attempts to revert a transfer strategy implemented by predecessor Mauricio Pochettino.

The Athletic report that the Spurs manager is eager to send the trio out on loan for the second half of the season, in the process stepping away from the practices laid down by Pochettino during his five-and-a-half years at Tottenham.

As per the report, the Argentine manager preferred to keep promising youngsters at the club in an attempt for them to learn from the first-team so that when the time came they were ready to compete, with Harry Winks being the main example of this philosophy, yet with Mourinho now in charge, it appears that things will be changing.

Will Mourinho's give youth players a chance?

Yes

No

The former Manchester United manager is reportedly a big fan of the likes of Skipp and Tanganga whilst Walker-Peters career has somewhat stalled despite a bright start at the beginning of the season, hence why the trio could all find themselves shipped out on loan during the January transfer window.

With Mourinho a manager known for his reluctance to bleed youth into the first-team at any of the sides he has managed as explained by Tifo Football, this seems to be a smart decision from the Tottenham manager and seemingly obvious evolution of the groundwork Pochettino laid down when it comes to youth players.

Tottenham’s reputation of bringing through academy players into the first-team is unrivalled out of any side in the Premier League top-six in recent years, and whilst it might be some time before another prospect breaks into the senior squad with Mourinho at the helm, it is promising to see the former Real Madrid manager take action on the players who require first-team minutes at this young stage in their career.
