Report: Tottenham targeting 31 y/o striker voted European side’s ‘worst signing’ this century

|

Tottenham are the latest club to register an interest in Leicester City striker Islam Slimani, with Aston Villa also keeping an eye on the Algerian international.

The Telegraph report that Slimani, who is currently out on loan at AS Monaco, has garnered interest from Spurs, who are currently on the lookout for a target man following the injury to Harry Kane, with Tottenham’s official website reporting that the England captain will be out until April at the earliest.

Tottenham have been linked with several attackers this month from AC Milan striker Krzysztof Piatek to FC Porto forward Ze Luis, yet their attempts to lure a new starting centre-forward have failed so far, hence Spurs’ shift to Slimani.

Will Spurs Replace Kane In The Transfer Window?

We Have To

No Chance

The 31-year-old attacker, who Turkish outlet Skor crowned Fenerbahce’s worst signing this century, has been in impressive form for Monaco this campaign, with stats from Transfermarkt showing that Slimani has managed seven goals and seven assists for the Ligue 1 side, who currently find themselves ninth in the standings.

Slimani has shown his goal-scoring and target man capabilities with Monaco this campaign, something that Tottenham are desperately missing with Kane out on the sidelines, yet for Spurs, the Algerian attacker could be less than ideal for the north London side.

Indeed, the Leicester striker has had a fair crack at playing Premier League football, with stats from Transfermarkt showing Slimani has managed 39 appearances in the English top-flight, scoring just eight goals, though, during his two seasons with the Foxes and his short-term loan spell with Newcastle United.

Tottenham are in desperate need of a target man that can effortlessly come into the starting XI to replace Kane for the rest of the season, but with Slimani already proving to be average at best in the Premier League and Leicester unlikely to loan a player to a rival team, the Algerian international could be a name Spurs move on from for now.
