Report: Tottenham submit bid for midfielder

According to Fotomac (h/t Sport Witness), Tottenham have submitted a bid for Eljif Elmas which could see Vincent Janssen going in the opposite direction. Spurs offered £17m + the Dutchman as a part-exchange deal and are hoping to beat Atletico Madrid and Sevilla to the 19-year-old’s signature.

Elmas joined Fenerbahce from Rabotnicki for £180k in 2017 and has gone on to make 47 appearances in all competitions, scoring and creating five goals. The North Macedonia international will land his club a huge profit this summer after becoming a regular in the Turkish Super Lig at such a young age.

Elmas racked up 1594 minutes of football last season, creating 14 chances, making 17 successful dribbles (55%), averaged 24 passes-per-game with 84% accuracy, blocked 21 shots/passes/crosses, hit the target with 29% of his 45 shots and averaged a tackle (31) or interception (16) every 34 minutes.

Fener reportedly want £17.9m for the 19-year-old, but Tottenham have matched the asking price and offered a striker to put themselves in pole position to land his signature. The Super Lig giants already have an ex-Spurs frontman in Roberto Soldado and have Islam Slimani from Leicester City too so they may not want or need another striker in the first-team squad.

Time will tell if Tottenham’s alleged bid is successful.
