Report: Tottenham star admits PL top-two are too far ahead to catch-up with

Harry Kane has admitted that Tottenham are already too far behind the likes of Liverpool and Manchester City in the Premier League table.

Speaking to The Mirror after Spurs’ surprise 1-0 defeat to Newcastle over the weekend, the England captain confessed that even after just three games of the season, catching up with the established Premier League top-two in Liverpool and Man City will be a tough ask.

Kane said: “I said before the start of the season that if we could put a run together, get that momentum, maybe winning for two-three months on the spin without dropping any points, then that’s what it’s going to take.

The striker added: “They (Liverpool and Man City) set the standard with those results and I knew we had to keep up with them, make sure we win, especially at home. It is disappointing that we haven’t done that in only our second home game (losing at home to Newcastle).”

With four points after three games and the likes of Liverpool and City way ahead of Spurs with nine and seven points respectively, it would seemingly be an overreaction to say that Tottenham have no chance on catching up with the two Premier League giants.

However, it is easy to forget just how good Liverpool and City were last season, with the two sides both accumulating 97+ points, a tally that has only been eclipsed once in English football history, with that honour also belonging to Pep Guardiola’s side.

Whilst it isn’t impossible for Spurs to catch-up with Liverpool and City in the race for the title, it will seemingly be a more difficult path to win as many games as the two Premier League sides than hope Jurgen Klopp and Guardiola’s sides both drop points as the campaign progresses.
