Report: Tottenham prodigy likened to Marcelo admits Mourinho wants him to play more ‘aggressive’

|

Ryan Sessegnon has admitted that Jose Mourinho is keen for the teenage attacker to add more aggression to his game after breaking into the Spurs first-team.

In an interview with Sky Sports, the former Fulham wonderkid confessed that the Portuguese manager is eager for Sessegnon to work on his ruthlessness off the ball as well as to be more positive when in possession.

The 19-year-old winger, who Football London once likened as a mix between Real Madrid duo Gareth Bale and Marcelo, has had to be patient for his chance to break into the Spurs starting XI after joining the club in the summer from Fulham on deadline day.

As stats from Transfermarkt show, Sessegnon has been fairly productive since making into the first-team at Spurs, making his first starts with the club under Jose Mourinho as well as scoring at the Allianz Arena against Bayern Munich.

Should Ryan Sessegnon start on Saturday?

Yes

No

Sessegnon said about his development under Mourinho: “I think he wants to vary me in different positions. If I am playing at full-back or wing-back he wants me to be aggressive off the ball – that’s something I have been working on in my game. (He wants me to) be more positive on the ball as well. I’ve been a bit disappointed in myself, the way I have been playing recently. It’s an honest assessment from me looking back at it.”

With the teenager starting Tottenham’s past two league games, it appears Sessegnon has won the attention of Mourinho as the club’s starting left-winger for now, and with the youngster eager to improve on his game, the Spurs manager will likely be keen to see more positive performances from one of the club’s most exciting prospects.
