According to Pepe Elias of Mucho Deporte, Tottenham are nearing a move for Dani Olmo. The report states that an agreement has been made with his agent and the player is ‘close to being transferred’ for £22m.

After waiting 18 months for a signing, Olmo could be Spurs’ third acquisition of the summer, having landed the signatures of Jack Clarke from Leeds United and Tanguy Ndombele of Olympique Lyonnais.

Olmo could be a long-term replacement for Christian Eriksen, with the 21-year-old’s natural position being a central attacking-midfield role. He’s also capable of playing as a deep-lying midfielder and out wide.

The Spanish u21 international has made 102 appearances in all competitions for Dinamo Zagreb, scoring (26) and creating (21) 47 goals. Olmo shone last season, particularly in the Europa League, contributing four goals in 10 games.

In 896 minutes of European football, Olmo made 19 chances (one-per-49 minutes), made 29 successful dribbles (one-per-31 minutes), averaged 34 passes-per-game and averaged a tackle (10) or interception (8) every 50 minutes.

Tottenham look to be signing a player with great potential amid uncertainty over Eriksen’s future. Dani Ceballos of Real Madrid and Giovani Lo Celso of Real Betis are also on the radar, but the report suggests Olmo might be the next player through the door.

  • Not quite sure what to make of this current transfer window. Jack Clarke and Tangut Ndombele already in and a large amount of new players strongly linked. As of this morning, Dani Olmo “almost transferred”. Dani Ceballos “80% certain” to come to the new stadium, (I’ll still call it White Hart Lane). If these two actually arrive at WHL, we are still actively chasing Giovani Lo Celso after increasing our offer for him, and we are still “expected to sign Ryan Sessegnon and his twin brother” by midway through the TW. What has happened to our beloved Danny Boy Levy?? Has Poch actually said, “buy these new players or I’m off”?
As an aside, we are also being linked with selling Toby Alderweireld, Danny Rose, Kieren Trippier, Victor Wanyama, Eric Dier and of course, Christian Eriksen. Presumably, Ryan Sessegnon would be used to replace Rose. Davinson Sanchez would replace Toby, and after very good reports of Juan Foyth during the S American cup, we’d use him to replace Tripps at right back. Is this all a dream, or are we destined to go back to the days of “We really tried but we were beaten for time coz the widow closed” that we’ve all become so used to?
Hopefully it’s onward and upward for the “new” THFC. (Apart from Dele Alli who appeared to be pi$$ed while on holiday in Mykonos. Sleep it off Dele and come back to your best next season.)
