Report: Tottenham may have to pay £31m and £0.22m wages to sign Sampdoria man

|

According to Paul Brown of the Daily Star, Tottenham have been offered Joachim Andersen by Sampdoria for £31m. Spurs could be losing Toby Alderweireld this summer and are hunting for a talented replacement in the transfer market.

Andersen is a player they’ve been linked with for some time and now they have a chance to land his signature if they meet his asking price and £0.22m-a-year wage demands. The 23-year-old joined Sampdoria from FC Twente in 2017 and has gone on to make 42 appearances in all competitions.

Adam Shergold of the Daily Mail says Arsenal recently pulled out of the race for the uncapped Danish defender, but Tottenham could have competition from Juventus, AC Milan and Napoli this summer. Andersen helped Sampdoria pick up 11 clean sheets in Serie A, conceding one or less goals in 63% of their games.

He featured in 32 league games last season, racking up 2880 minutes of playing time. Andersen averaged 63 passes-per-game with 89% accuracy, won 75 aerial duels (54%), blocked 33 shots/crosses/passes, made 144 clearances and averaged a tackle (40) or interception (35) every 38 minutes.

If Alderweireld’s £25m release clause is triggered in the coming weeks, his transfer fee could go towards signing Andersen.
