Report: Tottenham lose £9m after transfer falls through, Daniel Levy ‘left seething’

|

According to Wayne Veysey of Football Insider, Daniel Levy has been ‘left seething’ with Victor Wanyama after he snubbed a move to Club Brugge on deadline day. The 28-year-old was expected to be sold before the summer transfer window shut, but he was having second thoughts about joining Brugge and has now missed the deadline.

Levy isn’t happy. He spent weeks trying to sell Wanyama and had agreed a £9m deal with Brugge for his signature. The Kenyan international was offered a four-year deal and appeared to be happy to make the switch. Wanyama changed his mind, however, and will now stay on the periphery at Tottenham until January.

The defensive-midfielder risks wasting the season in London. He’s no longer a regular in the starting eleven and has so far failed to rack up a single minute of football this season. Wanyama has even been left out of the matchday squad for Spurs’ last three Premier League games. Whether he’ll get back in favour under Mauricio Pochettino remains to be seen.

There’s stiff competition for places in midfield from Tanguy Ndombele, Giovani Lo Celso, Moussa Sissoko, Harry Winks, Eric Dier and Dele Alli, so Wanyama may be spending 2019/20 on the periphery.
