Report: Tottenham ‘keeping tabs’ on ‘ impressive’ Wolverhampton Wanderers man

|

According to Wayne Veysey of the Football Insider, Tottenham are ‘keeping tabs’ on Willy Boly after being ‘impressed’ by his development since his 2017-move to Wolverhampton Wanderers. The 28-year-old turned his loan from FC Porto permanent in 2018 and has gone on to make 55 appearances in all competitions.

Boly has made 14 appearances just two months into the season, scoring and creating two goals. In the Premier League, the Frenchman has racked up 630 minutes of playing time, won 33 aerial duels (79%), blocked 10 shots/crosses/passes, made 50 clearances, averaged 38.9% passes-per-game with 78.3% accuracy and has averaged a tackle (24) or interception (12) every 17 minutes.

Tottenham are on the hunt for a central defender due to the uncertain future of Toby Alderweireld and Jan Vertonghen. Both players are out of contract next summer and aren’t close to signing new deals. Mauricio Pochettino has Juan Foyth, Davinson Sanchez and Eric Dier to call upon at centre-back, but a natural defender is also on the radar.

Whether Boly is considering a move away from Wolves remains to be seen, however, as the Midlands outfit have the Europa League to play in. Tottenham, on the other hand, are in for a disappointing campaign – one point from two Champions League games, eliminated from the EFL Cup and 13 points off top spot in the Premier League.
