Transfer rumours regarding Tottenham Hotspur and Real Madrid just will not seem to go away this summer as the two clubs continue to be linked with potential player deals.
Christian Eriksen has been touted with a move to the Santiago Bernabeu over the summer, whilst Gareth Bale and Dani Ceballos are names that have been thrown through the rumour mill as well with moves in the opposite direction.
However, it would seem a new name has been churned out of the machine this week as Diario Gol claim Mariano Diaz is on Tottenham’s radar.
The 25-year-old is believed to be keen on remaining at Real Madrid this summer, however, it is believed the club would be prepared to shift him on as they have added a number of attackers to their ranks.
Diaz was prolific during his time with Olympique de Lyonnais in the 2017/18 campaign – he managed to score 21 goals in 45 appearances across all competitions (Transfermarkt) – which led to Los Blancos deciding to exercise their buy-back clause (club’s official website).
However, the 18/19 season hardly went the Dominican Republic international’s way as he was limited to just 22 appearances (with most of them from the substitutes bench) and scoring four times (Transfermarkt).
Tottenham are thought to be in the market to sign a new centre-forward to provide Harry Kane with the competition and cover he needs – especially following the departure of Fernando Llorente (he no longer appears on the club’s official website despite no confirmation).
However, whether Diaz’s name is an option for Spurs this summer is one that remains to be seen as it appears to be a rather strange rumour that has come out of thin air and, let’s face it, Spanish media sources are not always the most reliable.
