Report: Tottenham interested in Southend United man, could cost £0.2m

|

According to The Sun (h/t HITC), Tottenham are interested in Nathan Bishop. The 19-year-old has become a regular at Southend United, featuring in 18 League One games between mid-December and mid-April, and could have a bright future under the right guidance.

Spurs are reportedly looking for young prospects to develop from the Football League and Bishop is the latest player to pop up on their radar. He’s made a total of 22 appearances for Southend, conceding 37 goals and keeping four clean sheets, and would surely jump at the chance to play for a side like Spurs.

With Hugo Lloris and Paulo Gazzaniga currently standing in Bishop’s way of reaching the first-team, the teenager could either be loaned out next season or sent to play in Tottenham’s reserve side until an opportunity opens up with the senior squad. Alfie Whiteman, Brandon Austin and Johnathan De Bie would provide stiff competition for a place in the u23s, however.

The £0.2m-rated goalkeeper might want to continue playing first-team football at Southend to aid his development next season, so Tottenham could allow him to spend the 2019/20 campaign back at Roots Hall if they signed him. Time will tell.
