Report: Tottenham have bid rejected for defender, details revealed

|

According to Tom Roddy of The Sun, Tottenham have had a bid rejected for Dan Happe. Leyton Orient turned down a £300k offer from Spurs as they’re holding out for more money. The 20-year-old impressed for the National League side last season and has attracted interest from the likes of Leicester City Leeds United and Norwich City.

Happe has made 48 appearances in all competitions for Orient, 20 of which came in 2018/19 as the O’s earned promotion to League Two. The centre-back is out of contract in 2020 and is likely to be sold this summer rather than Orient risking losing him for nothing next year. The club will accept a deal if they can loan Happe back next season.

If Mauricio Pochettino wants to land his third signing of the summer, Spurs would have to lodge an improved bid and allow Happe to return to Orient in 2019/20. The defender would be a low-risk acquisition given his asking price, but he may have a difficult task to progress through the youth ranks to the Tottenham first-team.

Tottenham have Jan Vertonghen, Toby Aldeweireld, Davinson Sanchez and Juan Foyth in the first-team while Cameron Carter-Vickers and Japhet Tanganga are next in the pecking order. Mauricio Pochettino’s success working with young English talent could still make Spurs an attractive proposition, however.
