Report: Tottenham dealt blow in pursuit of midfielder

|

Tottenham have been linked with a move for Dani Olmo amid uncertainty over Christian Eriksen’s future, but they may fail in their pursuit of the midfielder after Mundo Deportivo (h/t Sport Witness) reported that Olmo wants to return to Spain this summer.

The 21-year-old has spent the last five years at GNK Dinamo Zagreb after leaving Barcelona u18s, making 102 appearances in all competitions, scoring and creating 47 goals. Olmo has been outstanding in Croatia and finds himself linked with numerous clubs in Europe after impressing at Stadion Maksimir.

Tottenham have Atletico Madrid for competition, although the Rojiblancos’ recent £113m acquisition of Joao Felix may see them avoid Olmo. That being said, it’s bad news that the attacking-midfield favours a move to Spain over England.

Christian Eriksen is expected to be on his way out of Tottenham this summer after admitting in an interview that he’s open to a new challenge. The Lilywhites will need a long-term replacement. Giovani Lo Celso of Real Betis has been linked with a move, but Olmo could also be a good option.

Mauricio Pochettino could be left with only Dele Alli in an attacking-midfield role if Eriksen left, so a new face could be brought in. Whether that’s Olmo remains to be seen, however.
